Oral surgery

ORAL SURGERY

Apart from interventions related to implantology and periodontology, we carry out various other types of interventions. If recommended by an orthodontist, we can carry out surgical interventions on the mucosa, such as labial or lingual frenectomy, stitching of impacted canines, gingival grafts, etc.

The extraction of impacted wisdom teeth is one of the most frequent surgical interventions.

periodontal disease - Dr Portigheis

Six good reasons to extract the third molars, more commonly known as wisdom teeth

1. In the case of problems with oral hygiene

Wisdom teeth are more vulnerable to cavities and gingivitis, since they are hard to reach when brushing.

2. In the case of pericoronitis

This is a common and very painful infection that affects partially erupted wisdom teeth. It is caused by the accumulation of food debris under the gum.

3. In the case of cavities

Due to their position in the mouth, cavities in wisdom teeth can be very difficult to treat. And if the nerve is affected, the anatomical complexity of their canals often makes them to impossible.

4. In the case of periodontal disease

Wisdom teeth affected by periodontal destruction usually have to be extracted. Furthermore, removing them often improves the prognosis of the second molars, which are very important in terms of their function.

5. To prevent misalignment of teeth

The growth of third molars on the dental arches can visibly modify dental alignment and cause misalignment, or even recurrence after orthodontic treatment.

6. For orthodontic reasons

If the presence of the wisdom teeth puts the success of orthodontic treatment at risk, it may be necessary to consider extraction.
